Richard van Zwol nominated as new Chair of the Network of EU IFIs

The Network also welcomes the Federal Planning Bureau and the High Council of Finances from Belgium as new members

Richard van Zwol, State Council at the Netherlands Council of State, has been nominated as new chair of the Network of EU Independent Fiscal Institutions. Mr. Van Zwol has a long career of public service and has been part of the Netherlands Council of State since 2017.

The new era of high public debt raises questions on how to strengthen fiscal surveillance towards a medium-term focus on growth and sustainability. As chair I will continue to promote a knowledge based and transparent discussion on this issue with all the members of the Network, for the benefit of governments, parliaments and the public at large in all the members’ states”, stated Mr Van Zwol

The network further welcomed two new members from Belgium: the Federal Planning Bureau and the High Council of Finances. With these new additions, all EU independent fiscal oversight bodies are now part of the network which has 32 members from 26 EU Member States plus the UK.

In this unprecedented time for fiscal policies, the Network will continue working in strengthening the ties between IFIs, providing a space to exchange best practices and expertise and pool resources. This collaboration is instrumental in developing the tools needed to oversee the new fiscal realities.
