Network of EU IFIs ready to cooperate with the European Fiscal Board

The Network of EU IFIs welcomes recent steps made by the Commission to make the European Fiscal Board (EFB) operative. The Chairman, Niels Thygesen, and the additional four members were appointed yesterday and are expected to start working soon. The Network would like to show from the very beginning its willingness and readiness to cooperate and develop a smooth and fruitful dialogue with the EFB as the Network already stressed in its November 2015 position paper. National IFIs and now the EFB are both a consequence of the reforms of the economic governance of the EMU triggered by the economic and financial crisis. Although they have different tasks and different capacities both type of institutions share the common goal of promoting sound and sustainable fiscal policies.
